A Very Warm Welcome to Our Wonderful School!

Short Wood is a special place to learn and challenge yourself to try something new or different. We are a respectful and reflective school, where you feel a sense of belonging, pride, safety, and belief. You can achieve, hear positive voices, and see smiles. 

A purposeful buzz of learning fosters independence. From Early Years to Year 6, learning is collaborative, with pupils demonstrating responsibility and skills in self-directed learning. We teach the relevant vocabulary for all children to be able to talk about their learning and explain their thinking.  

Positive emotional health and well-being create solid foundations for learning. Feeling safe supports well-being and a sense of being grounded; consequently, we respond to challenges positively and take appropriate risks. Consistent, evidence-based practice, which is playful, empathetic, accepting, and curious underpins a positive approach ensuring focused, creative teaching and learning in calm, happy, purposeful sessions.  

I am really proud to be the Head Teacher of Short Wood: we are inspired by the pupils on a daily basis, we enjoy positive relationships with parents and the community and have a really committed team of professionals, who work tirelessly to create learning experiences that are memorable and meaningful. We also have strong professional relationships with a range of agencies and other support networks to enable us to signpost you to others, if required.

If your child is in our school, you will have direct contact with your child's class teacher via Dojo. Also, members of our team are always available on the playground or around the site during drop off and collection times - please do stop and have a chat.
