Year 1

Good morning Year 1's.

Phonics

For your phonics today have a go at this phonics activity sheet. (If you are unable to print please just copy the activities)

Literacy

Yesterday you looked at the story of 'Jack and the Beanstalk' today we would like you to retell the story by making your own puppets. Below are some finger puppets you could print and use or feel free to make your own. When you are retelling think about the events at the beginning, middle and end of the story. Maybe you could practice your retelling and then perform the story to an adult. Have fun!

Maths

The giant has HUGE hands! But how big are they? Draw the outline of a huge hand, you could join several pieces of paper together or you could use chalk outside, its up to you. Once you have drawn your hand use non standard units of measurement to find the length.

Top Tips:

  • Decide where you are measuring from and to.
  • Are your units of measurement all the same? (blocks, lego, paperclips, pen lids etc)
  • Are your items touching, don't leave any gaps.
  • Have you counted your units carefully?

Topic 1

It's supposed to be summer! Take a walk around your garden or local area and look carefully for signs of summer. How are they different to signs of spring?

Can you make a list of the signs of summer?

Can you compare them to the signs of spring?

Topic 2

Yesterday you planted your bean, hopefully it's going to grow into a big, tall beanstalk. Before it does it's a good idea to explore structures that will support your stalk. How will you keep the stalk up, how will you stop it from drooping? Use household items such as lego, straws, pens etc to make a structure that will support the stalk as it grows. We would love to see your ideas, please send your photos to dojo.
