Monday 6th July

Good morning Year 5s and Year 6s.

Hope you had a great weekend.

Welcome to another school week!

Today's tasks:

Reading

Read your book for half an hour.  In your reading diary, make a note of which character from your book you would most like to meet.  Give clear reasons for your choice.

Tables practice

This week practise your 6, 7 and 8 times tables.  How quick can you be at recalling these tables facts instantly?

Today's challenge

Spelling

We are looking this week at words which use 'ei' to make a long 'e' sound.

Copy today's words carefully - ceiling, receipt - then circle or highlight the 'ei'.  Practise both words using the strategies which work best for you.

Literacy

Imagine you are writing a postcard to a friend from your camping holiday.  Your message doesn't need to be very long (only 6 sentences), but it needs lots of thought because you must use the different sentence starters below for each sentence.  What sort of things will you tell your friend? Something about the weather or about the campsite?  Some of the games you've played or places you've been?  Funny stories about putting up the tent or trying to cook over a campfire?

Design Technology

Have a look at the model tent you made last week.  Now we'd like you to make a base for your tent to stand on, with camping accessories.  So perhaps you could use card covered in grass or sand, and maybe add sticks for a campfire, with orange paper for flames?  Can you add a camping chair or a table and benches?  Maybe a cooking pot or a kettle from card or plasticene if you have any?  Use your imagination and see what you can come up with!
