Mechanical Engineering Workshop - Monday 15th October
STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths
Today Mrs Mee, a STEM representative, came in to do some exciting work with us.
We learnt that mechanical engineers make things move and that we are the mechanical engineers of the future. We looked at the ever pressing issue over Global Warming. We discussed how this is a BIG issue and, as Class 11 are the children of the future, that we need to do all that we can to help our world overcome this. We talked about how recycling and driving electric cars can help make less of an impact on global warming.
We were presented with a dilemma. If the world's temperature kept on rising, what would happen to Wellington? We found out that it could possibly flood and we would have to live like the Conovii tribes during Roman times and live at the top of The Wrekin! Others may have to live on top of the Ercall and so we discussed that if we both became islands (Wrekin Island and Ercall Island) how could we communicate and share our resources?
We had the challenge to work as team to come up with a mechanism to transport food and resources from The Wrekin Island over to the Ercall Island, making sure we do not sink into the water!
Have a look at our pictures to see our designs...
